The Meaning of Veda
The Vedas are ancient Hindu texts which date back to 1000 BC. These are the oldest Hindu writings and they are comprised into four collections. Hindus believe the Vedas to be “not of a man, but superhuman” and were created for both an oral and written tradition. The four Vedas contain mantras, rituals, celebrations and chanting songs. They help to bring meaning and definition as one moves through life—from a newborn baby’s rite of passage, to coming of age and marriage ceremonies, to the sacrifices and rituals surrounding death. The Vedas provide spiritual knowledge and a philosophy for living.
This line was created to provide beautiful pieces of jewelry that represent an individuals’ personal style and journey. They can be worn alone or layered in any combination to provide spiritual significance and symbolic meaning. All of the pieces were produced by the talented craftsmen of Jaipur, India and assembled in Portland, Maine. These interpretations of ancient Hindu and Buddhist symbols are meant to remind women of their strengths and support personal goals and intentions.
All of the pieces come with a brief description and explanation of their significance. Our hope is that when you wear a piece from the Veda jewelry collection, you will enjoy both the beauty, quality and intentional significance … reminding you that this is … “A Beautiful Life”.
About Lorie Dana
Lorie lives in Portland, Maine with her husband and two teenagers. She has always had a love and appreciation for hand crafted jewelry. She spent countless hours as a young girl sitting on the floor in her mother’s bedroom, sorting through her collection of silver jewelry that had been handmade by her great grandmother and passed down through the family.
After taking a few silversmithing classes, Lorie’s enthusiasm for jewelry resulted in her opening a retail business called, “Silver Hammer”, which featured beautiful handmade jewelry. She travelled extensively in Southeast Asia, India and Mexico selecting jewelry to bring back and sell at “The Hammer”. After the arrival of her son and daughter, Lorie decided to close Silver Hammer and put her jewelry business on hold. Now, Lorie has created this line to provide something different. Each piece is a unique representation of the ancient Hindu and Buddhist symbols that have helped to guide people along their life journey. The Veda line is delicate, refined and appealing to women of all ages. The pieces are not only beautiful, accessible and easy to wear, but provide meaning and significance to those who wear them. It is Lorie’s hope that while wearing this jewelry, (in any combination), people will be reminded that this is … “A Beautiful Life”.
